چکیده

Accepted 16 October 1995 A 44-year-old man had suffered from headache, general fatigue and impotence for three months. Physical examination revealed a bitemporal visual field defect. Skull X-ray films showed ballooning of the sella turcica. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an intrasellar cystic mass compressing optic chiasma (figure). The cyst was removed by a transsphenoidal approach. Anterior pituitary function was evaluated by combined provocative testing (luteinising hormonereleasing hormone test, thyrotropin-releasing hormone test, and insulin tolerance test) before and 21 days after surgery (table).

Spontaneous Involution of a Presumably Rathke's Cleft Cyst in a Patient with Slight Subclinical Hypopituitarism: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Rathke cleft cyst is described as benign intrasellar cyst. They are mostly small and asymptomatic; they may become large enough to cause symptoms by compression of intrasellar or suprasellar structures. We report on a case of spontaneous regression of a symptomatic RCC with subsequent recovery of preexisting endocrine dysfunction and resolution of headaches. A 60-year-old man complained about h...

Xanthogranuloma of the intrasellar region presenting in pituitary dysfunction: a case report

INTRODUCTION Differentiation of cystic mass lesions of the sellar and parasellar regions may pose a diagnostic dilemma for physicians, neurosurgeons, radiologists and pathologists involved in treating patients with these entities. A considerable number of tumors previously identified as craniopharyngiomas may, in fact, have been xanthogranulomas. We report a case of pituitary dysfunction caused...

Acute adrenal insufficiency due to symptomatic Rathke's cleft cyst.

A 65-year-old Japanese man who suffered from secondary hypopituitarism due to Rathke's cleft cyst is reported. Although computed tomography failed to detect any pituitary abnormality, magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated the presence of a cystic intrasellar mass, initially suggesting craniopharyngioma or abscess. Operative findings revealed Rathke's cleft cysts within the pituitary fossa whi...

Hypopituitarism Secondary to Unruptured Intrasellar Aneurysm Misdiagnosed as Pituitary Adenoma: A Case Report

Intrasellar aneurysms that mimic pituitary tumors with are rare with few previous reports [1-4]. 10% of such aneurysms can cause parasellar syndromes and 1.4-5% of such cases managed by neurosurgeons have been found to extend into the sella tursica [5]. They may present with symptoms of mechanical compression or endocrinopathies. Though absence of endocrine symptoms may distinguish an aneurysm ...

Hypopituitarism and amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome caused by thrombosis of both internal carotid artery and giant intrasellar aneurysm: case report.

Giant intra and parasellar aneurysm with a spontaneous thrombosis of internal carotid artery is rare. We report the case of a 34 years old woman presenting a unique giant sellar and parasellar aneurysm associated with hypopituitarism and amenorrhea-galactorrhea syndrome. Computed tomographic scans and magnetic resonance images were suggestive of a sellar tumor with a cystic component. Digital c...
